Update and latest information regarding the Corona virus and traveling to Bonaire

22nd of December 2021

We regularly adjust our corona updates, however, for the most up-to-date information, please refer to the regulations of the Bonairian government as well as the regulations of the country you are departing from.

Tourists are welcome on Bonaire and you can move freely around the island. The restaurants, supermarkets and shops are open, but you are required to adhere to safety measure and maintain a distance of 1.5 meters from anyone that is not an immediate member of your household. If keeping a distance is not possible, face masks are mandatory. If you return to the VS or Canada from Bonaire, you DO NOT have to go into home quarantine for 10 days.

Well-prepared for your trip to Bonaire

PCR test

Travelers aged 12 and older must have a COVID-19 PCR test with a negative result prior to flight departure. The COVID-19 PCR test (throat and nasal swab) must be done a maximum of 48 hours before departure.

Please consult your government health department for available testing locations.

If you have been fully vaccinated and you show your vaccination certificate, you have two options:

  • You have a NAAT(PCR) test taken within 48 hours before departure, or
  • You have an antigen test taken within 24 hours before departure

Are you not (fully) vaccinated? Then you must be quarantined for 5 days after arrival on Bonaire. You also have two options:

  • You have a NAAT(PCR) test taken within 24 hours before departure, or
  • You only have a NAAT(PCR) test that was taken within 48 hours before departure. Furthermore, you must have an antigen test done at your own expense immediately upon arrival at the airport of Bonaire for USD 50.

You can also enter Bonaire with a recovery certificate. Your proof of recovery must be issued a minimum of 11 days and a maximum of 180 days after the first positive NAAT(PCR) test.

Mandatory quarantine for unvaccinated travelers from high and very high risk countries

All travelers aged 12 years and older from the Netherlands and the US must take a PCR test and a self-test on arrival within forty-eight hours before departure to Bonaire from Wednesday, December 22, 2021. Travelers receive a free self-test, they must test themselves on the day of arrival at their holiday accommodation. If they test positive, they must make an appointment in isolation and with the Public Health Department to retest. Bonaire is tightening travel conditions to the island to delay the arrival of the omikron variant.

Due to the rapid spread of the omikron variant, all high-risk countries will be equated with very high-risk countries from 22 December 2021. This also applies to the Netherlands and the US. From next Wednesday, all travelers from high or very high risk countries will be obliged to do a PCR test on the fifth day after arrival at their own expense at a commercial testing company, not at the Public Health Department. These tests can be done on the Grand Windsock Bonaire and can be booked at the reception.

Unvaccinated travelers from high or very high risk countries are required to self-quarantine for five days. After that, they have to do a PCR test at their own expense at a commercial testing company, not at the Public Health Department. A traveler can only be released from quarantine with a negative test result. All travelers who test positive must be in isolation.
