Divers and snorkelers from all over the world come specially to Bonaire for all of this. Thanks to protective measures, the reefs are in great condition. More than 60 species of coral and 350 sorts of fishes live close to the shore, the highest number in the Caribbean.
85 official dive- and snorkel locations
More than 85 official dive- and snorkel locations, the majority of which are directly reachable. So diving and snorkeling on Bonaire is easily accessible. You can drive to almost every location on the (mainly west-) coast and then move between the coral reefs in the sea. Because the west coast is fairly sheltered from the wind, there is little current and the visibility in some places is more than 90 meters.
Bonaire National Marine Park (BNMP)
Diving enthusiasts, nature conservationists and the government realized quite early on that Bonaire is blessed with a unique underwater world. In 1979, the coastal area around Bonaire was declared a protected nature reserve and became the first marine park in the world. The total area is more than 27 km², the majority of which is accessible to snorkelers and divers.


One large aquarium
Underwater you have the illusion that you’re in a big sea aquarium and living in and around the coral reefs are the most beautiful sea creatures you’ve ever seen. Bonaire is renowned for the most unspoiled coral reefs in the world and is the living environment for an enormous diversity of beautiful tropical fish and other colorful sea dwellers. Sea turtles: 5 out of 7 you will meet on Bonaire
There are seven different species of sea turtles in the world. Of these seven, five live in the waters of Bonaire and Klein Bonaire, and you can easily see them while snorkeling, diving or kayaking in the mangroves of Lac Bay.
